Psychology

What does a psychologist do?

A psychologist is a registered professional who uses “talk therapy” to help you better understand yourself and the challenges you face. A psychologist can help you identify your strengths, build positive relationships and develop strategies for tackling the challenges of life.

Services

Who do you provide services to?

Skein Psychology specialises in early childhood psychology, where a young child has developmental difficulties. Bronwyn works in partnership with parents and carers, and other allied health professionals, to address behaviour, relationship or developmental difficulties, within the context of the child’s family, and other child-specific settings (such as preschool or school).

I have a child with a developmental difficulty. How can a psychologist help me?

Skein Psychology can help you to better understand how your child’s developmental difficulties affect his/her learning and skill development, relationships with others, and behaviour. Bronwyn can support you to “see the world through your child’s eyes” and develop a positive relationship with your child, whilst also helping you to find strategies to get through some of the more difficult moments in life.

Referrals

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

No. You do not need a referral from a doctor to access services from Skein Psychology if you are using NDIS funds.

NDIS

Can I pay for services with NDIS funds?

Skein Psychology accepts referrals for self-managed and plan-managed clients under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), where a child has funding for Capacity Building Supports for Early Childhood Interventions (children aged 0-6 years old).

Other Referrals

I don’t have an NDIS plan. Can I still book an appointment?

No. Skein Psychology specialises in early childhood developmental difficulties and will only accept referrals for children who are NDIS participants with Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) plans.

Location

Where do you provide services?

As a home and community-based service, Skein Psychology provides services wherever is comfortable and convenient for you. Bronwyn can visit your home and see you and your child together in your own familiar environment, taking the stress of car rides, waiting rooms and getting places on time out of the picture for you.

Appointments

What can I expect in my first appointment?

Each session with Skein Psychology will usually be 60 minutes in duration (unless otherwise negotiated with you). In your first session you can expect Bronwyn to get some basic information from you and to find out about you and your child’s story so far. Bronwyn will spend time with you explaining what services with Skein Psychology will look like and you will also have an opportunity to ask any questions you might have about Bronwyn or Skein Psychology services.
